Default Seo biggest fallacy

The biggest myth about SEO is that a number 1 rank MATTERS.

This is actually a complex discussion, one that is not suited to forums, but you should remember that there is more to running a profitable online enterprise than the page rank.

Hmm well I wouldn't necessarily go around suggesting to people that it is not worth bothering to try and build their ranking. The drop off of click rates going down the first page in Google is huge. As part of an overall strategy it is something that needs to be looked at closely.

It is certainly not a fallacy, but it does depend on your goals and strategy. No1 in google certainly does matter if its organic FREE (not ppc) traffic that you want from a VERY relevant keyword to the content offereing on you website.

Granted, there are lots of other ways to achieve the same amount of traffic but being No1 on goolge is a pretty good way to go about it.

Top 3 on the first page of Google get about 80% of the organic search traffic for that keyword.

Maybe not number 1, but surely page 1. Agreed it's a complex subject, but really what else is there? Also, are you confusing pagerank with a number one ranking on Google?

1st, 2nd, and 3rd results on a SERP get the most clicks, FACT.

Whether it's worth competing to get there is a matter of ROI, especially for High Value Key Terms.

As for everything else it's all about the Long Tail...

this is not true. the percentage of organic traffic for a specific keyword depends on how competitive the kw is, and the market niche you are in, for example. Not all the keywords have the same chance.

If you were talking about page rank not being important I would now agree, but to say being on page one of Google and especially number on the first page is not important I would emphatically disagree.

Must say it sounds pretty silly what you are saying.

If you are not in the top 3 on Google for your main search terms you are not going to get very high traffic numbers,

Especially as Google has started placing maps results and shopping results after the top 3 further pushing down 4th position and onwards

I often have to laugh about companies ranking on #1 position in organic search and the same time they rank on top position in PPC Adwords campaigns ... I guess Google likes this too...

If you rank on #1 itīs fine,
but number 4 is fine too ... it always depends on your goals!!
