Default Tax relief on charity work

When I used to work for a large employer we were often encouraged to work with local groups & charities and could qualify for time off for this work.

I presume they were able to qualify for a tax break on this time (as it is unlikely they funded it out of the goodness of their hearts ), anyone know if/how as a small company I could qualify for any tax breaks whilst taking time out to work with the local school.

Any pointers greatly recieved.

Its really tragic fact friends that in the less developed countries most of the business men are also running their charity hospitals and school with their businesses and you know the purpose ? They are not serving the humanity they are just getting the relaxation from taxes. What is this ?
