Default acquiring email addresses

Hi

I am considering sending a kind of e-flyer to individuals and was wondering if there are companies or sites that offer legally acquired lists of emails.

It would be good if the emails could be grouped by postcode.

If anyone has any advice on this it would be very much appreciated.

Many Thanks

I'd be cynical about claims of legal email lists - many are simply harvested from the net - you'd probably need to contact publishers directly, ask if they have an email list, and if they can offer advertising. That way's probably better anyway, as you can aim to be more targeted with your audience.

Hi Brian

Many thanks for taking the time to reply, it's appreciated. However I think I'll abandon this idea having looked around.

The only way you can be sure that each person has given their permission to send emails to their address is to ask them yourself!

Default About splash pages

Has anyone using a splash page. It introduces your products or service by asking a potential visitor to your site to send their name and email address. If they do you can use their email for future promotions.

You would probably put too many people off clicking through to your site if you required an email address to be entered...
Plus you would need to state that the email address that they enter would be used for marketing purposes and legally you should offer them an opt out option. (usually a tick box)

The collecting of email addresses is a specialised business which is why the legit companies who do it can charge a premium for their lists, any low cost lists are likely to be years out of date or collected via non legal means. (not to mention they wouldn't be targeted leads)

I'm sorry I said splash page when I should have said squeeze page. A squeeze page offers a visitor a free gift if they subscribe to their page. This is basically what I had in mind. The visitor has the option to subscribe or not when they visit the site.

I'm not sure about the companies that sell email addresses. You can go to them and select a category that resembles what your company offers, and charges you for what they consider a premium list, but are you sure you're getting what you pay for?

Those who choose to subscribe to your site have a genuine interest in what you're promoting and express that by subscribing. When you purchase an email list, do you really know that these people are interested in what you offer?

All you're doing with a squeeze page is offering a gift for a subscription. If the visitor doesn't want any more promotions sent to their email address they can unsubscribe.

A squeeze page makes wonders for increasing the conversion rate from visitor to subscriber.

It is best to build your own list and there are various respectable online companies that can help you with that. The problem is it takes time and new marketers usually need to start earning soon. There is something called solo ads that you can use to target specific audiences that have opted in to receive emails in certain areas. You can check out the directory of ezines. I have not used them to-date myself and I hear there is a charge to join and submit your emails so I would check them out well before spending any money.
