I can see from the API that you could stream a string of sales pitches quite easily, but would it be worth the effort?
Can you actually generate sales or gain any SEO benefit from it?

Hi, my first post so be gentle !

I currently have some savings that I'm looking to invest.
Last week I received notice that the savings account where the money is now, is to reduce their % rate to 2.73% !
So therefore not really worth leaving it there.

Just by chance had a telephone call last week from a company asking if I would be interested in any offshore investment opportunities ?

They have sent me a brochure, and telephoned me again today, recommending gold as a short term investment.
I would be required to open a trading account, and invest a minimum of just over £6k for any period from a week or up to March 2009, obviously depending on when and if the time is right to sell, which their advisers would recommend.

Was just looking for some good advice really from anyone who could tell me if this would be a sound investment, or should I stay well clear of telephone canvasers ?
They have given me their company reg no. for off shore trading etc. But something is stopping me going any further just now.

Waddya think ?

Manage your UK website business from overseas?

I am in quite a dilemma these days.

I am about to arrange and start my future studies. I have tons of website business ideas that I wanna give a go in the UK and I also feel very attracted to study for some time in London. I am really keen on doing a one year International Foundation Course at the London Metropolitan University next year (starting september 2009 - till summer 2010) which will provide me with the necessary study and language skills needed to succeed onto an English taught business undergraduate course (3-4 years).. if I succeed of course.

However, I am also thinking about perhaps studying in the US after doing my International Foundation Course instead of the UK - so my question here is:

- if I set up a website business in the UK and decide to carry on with my studies in the US, will it be unrealistic to think that I will be able to manage an online business from overseas?

After all; that is the one of the major advantages by having an online business - that you can manage it from pretty much all over the world.
Of course the size and the entire complexity of the website says a lot, and the ideas I have covers small-size online businesses which does not need employees and can pretty much be controlled single handed by one persons.

I am wondering these days.

When it comes to legal agreements/terms and conditions for websites..
If you have a website with no user-payment or other kind of income except for adverts, does legal agreements or terms/conditions matter too much?

Of cause you should always make sure that your legal policy of your website is up to date and present. As soon your site has an income (from e.g. user payment) - it gives you a certain responsibility that you need to take care of (legally-wise). But what if you have no income? Are legal terms & conditions still an important issue that should have top priority to protect the website from legal problems?

And speaking of legal agreements/terms and conditions for a website - what is the easiest way to develop them for you own UK website (UK - websites working under the influence of United Kingdom laws)? Can you just use free templates from the internet or from other similar sites or would the best way be to develop them on your own from scratch to make sure all areas of your site will be covered?

The credit crunch in the UK sees banks tightening the reigns on lending to small businesses. Those small businesses, who are viewed as risky investments by banks even in boom times, will now find it harder than ever to secure loans.

There are a number of ways in which small businesses can prepare for a financial downturn. Here are a few simple steps you can take to help weather the storm:

Review your current bank
Your bank will play a key role in your credit crunch survival, so it’s important to know you’re getting the best deal for your business. If you are considering switching accounts to a new bank, thoroughly investigate your options. Compare the various deals, and be sure to pay attention to the fine print – watch for hidden charges and any clauses which may affect your interest rate.

Get tough on accounts owing
During a recession it is important to ensure your client accounts are paid on time. Larger clients will be adopting their own strategies to retain funds, so may be paying even later than usual. Don’t be afraid to get tough, a good client will understand that you’ve got a business to run too, and that receiving payments is an essential part of maintaining a steady cash flow.

Try to keep staff costs down
Paying employees is an unavoidable cost in most businesses, but some careful consideration of how this money is spent can go a long way. Before recruiting new staff members, evaluate whether existing staff could fill this gap or if the necessary task can be completed by using the services of a Virtual Assistant. If new staff must be employed, ensure this recruitment is effective. Recruiting can be an expensive procedure, so it’s important to get it right the first time.

Hello :)

Saving money, by saving energy is easier than you might realise. In most cases its common sense, however we often don't give a second thought to how much its actually costs to leave a light on or to turn a monitor off rather than leave it on standby! Here are a few examples:

Close windows and doors at night to prevent heat loss. A window left open overnight wastes enough energy to drive a small car 35 miles.
Turn your thermostat down. Reducing your office temperature by 1°C could cut your heating bills by up to 10%.
Switch off lights when a room is not in use. This is probably the easiest change you can make: it costs nothing and it can save you up to 15% on your bills by implementing this simple measure.
Don't leave office machinery on standby. Turn off your monitor when it's not in use and unplug printers and scanners at the end of the day. A photocopier left on overnight wastes enough energy to print 1500 A4 copies.

So, some significant savings can be made by spending an extra 5 minutes at the end of each day, checking the office.

I hope this helps :)

Thanks
