phpBB is not so good in terms of security, at least the 2.0.x version. By the way has anyone tried the new 3.0.x Olympus one?

I've been using phpBB for years and it's been great for me. I did have some problems with spam bots at one point so I found an anti-spam mod that took two mins to install and it solved that problem. Of course it's not as good as vbulletin but it is amazing for being free.

I have used some free forum scripts. I have used smf. It was secure (at least everybody sais that) but i didn't like it's look even with another skin. I used phpbb but not for a long time so i didn't face any security problem. Mybb for me is a very good forum script. I like the way it looks.

One issue for which I just can't stop using PhpBB, is the ease with which you can change the looks-and-feels of the forum. Change three odd pictures, change the default color settings, chage one table layout, and it gives an all new looks.
It takes hardly few hours to give it a distinctive look. That's great.

If you have the money then go purchase a vBulletin forum. vBulletin forum's are very secure and you can surely see the difference between a vBulletin forum and a phpBB forum.

Friend I have got a project to set up a forum for a leading magazine (in India) ...I was thinking of phpBB2 will it be good enough ?

I have a question. If my host has SSL protection or maybe double layer SSL protection then also will my site be hacked ?

I think phpBB is really weak in terms of security. Even script babies can hack it.
