Yeah. Even in highschool, it was geared that way with marketing. They taught us general rules, like "Find a need to fulfill" and different approaches, like pricing a new product, and the general practices for universal products.

But then they sent us out into the coommunity to test how we took the information, meeting with potential clients, doing cold calls, etc.

doing cold calls, aargh...one of the most annoying tasks in the business imo...especially the business to business calling, most managers you try to get in contact with either don't take you seriously or are simply too busy...

Yeah. On one venture, we set out sell advertising space in the yearbook, and for some reason they sent us to downtown, to major departments like Sears, ToysRUs, Toyta, Canadian Tire, etc, as if they'd actually e in a position to make such a descision, or actually care. In all fiarness, when the coporation, globally, if not locally, has moe people emplyeed under it than the town has for a population, the little highschool's year book isn't going to be a business venture head office takes seriously.

Odly enough though, Sears actually considered it.

hehe...you must have done it right then...i really feel what you are saying though, most companies don't take you to seriously when starting out, which is kind of logical, especially when you are trying to sell IT-services while they already have a long established relationship/contracts with other companies.

I don't think I did a very good job phrasing my position. What I really meant is that alot of majors out there are usless. There is plenty that can come out of college, however I've found that decided that some majors are useless and that you won't really give you much knowledge.

i have a friend doing a Multimedia course in University here. I've seen some of the web pages he's made...they are all bevel. marquees and flashy gifs.

Though he is good with 3dsm and illustrator.

I think they need to teach them more actual design principles.
