Forgive me for not reading through this thread but i am an avid Dreamweaver user and so far this version hasnt been to bad.
I really do like the tabs, if you work on a website with 40 pages, its nice to know where you are and have htem all on the tab bar, just line them up and look at htem all. I really didnt see to much of a change from MX to MX04 although, i bet anyone using the WYSIWYG side would, but those of us to just use the coding side most likely wouldnt. I have a few people who love Frontpage, but i have heard some bad things aobut it so i have only been staying away as of now. |

WYSIWYG software becomes very irritating when used by skillfull people. I currentlly use ConTEXT (http://www.fixedsys.com/context). It's just a light, simple text-editor with syntax highlighting for hundreds of programming languages.
Eclipse is also a very nice IDE (I had to download a module to use it with PHP, but it worked just fine). Check it out at www.eclipse.org |

See i look at it like this.
The nice part about Dreamweaver for me is that i can do all of my backend, and still render the HTML and CSS so i can make changes pre-server upload. I dont have to download plugins for syntax highlighting or auto-indenting (although the highlighing inst the best, its improving). Even if you do use the WYSIWYG features of Dreamweaver, it wont bloat your code like Frontpage will. You also cant say that "it is irritating when used by skillfull people." That is somethign that is irritating to you. I know tons of code jockeys that could probably( i havent seen your work mind you) blow you out of the water on any project you put them up to, and DW is their IDE of choice! (If you can really call it an IDE, i think that IDE's for web based languages are stupid) You really should make a steriotype like that one, because many people dissagree with that, including myself and a number of friends. |

well, i'm in favor of notepad-style but i usually use dw for all my coding. to save time i often do the "big" stuff in the wysiwyg-mode. then i enter the code-mode and do pretty much all code by myself. i don't know how the syntax highlightning etc. compares to other editors, but me like very much
![]() as all should've done/do, i started with notepad (7-8 years ago), but after struggeling with manual coding for some years dw 1.0 (or was it 2.0?) got my attention, and that's pretty much it. if anyone asks me, it's okey with dw and wysiwyg, IF you know manual coding. you should really know what the program does for you. period ![]() my $0.02. |
