search engine optimisation is the most effective, it sends you very targetted traffic with no cost;
There is a huge competition over the keywords, so you have to be sure that you really know how to promote your site.

Do articles and market your site. Why go free. Join Triond and AC content and make a few cents doing it.

Digg and Stumble can both send huge amounts of traffic to your site. All you need to do is add an interesting article to your site, then Stumble/Digg it and have a couple of friends do the same. If its a good article, others will stumble it too, you can easily get thousands of visitors in a short space of time, and its completely free.

Here is a check list to promote and market your site, and eventually bring in traffic to your site.

It depends on the budget you have for marketing and advertising your site.
Free methods:
Submission to SE's and directories
Article marketing
Email campaign
Forums, blogs and board postings to targetted audience
Social Bookmarking
Etc. etc.
Premium ways: (Should require a budget)
Pay-Per-Click (PPC)
Targetted Link backs
Professional SEO services
Ad spaces
Offline campaigns
Etc. etc.

But regular traffic doesn't always give you the best results. One should focus on getting targetted traffic as these yields a higher conversion rate. IMO, I would opt at PPC, buying targetted link backs, forum posting on similar niche to reach my targetted traffic.

Hope my suggestions help out

Well you should do all above stuff and addition to this you can create a Forum to your website and do some publicity for that this will boost some traffic and some will your regular members but if your in that kind of business.

You can also give us link of your site to suggest a correct way!
