How is PR related to traffic?

Is there any relation between page rank and traffic or are they almost completely unrelated?

I have visited other websites with high traffic (ex. sedo.com) - have pr3 or 4. Other websites have pr7 or8 with low traffic. Is pagerank related to backlink mainly or what? I used to think that websites with high traffic must have a high pagerank, but I'm not sure anymore.

Any opinions?

There's really no relation between the two other than they both have to do with SEO.
Traffic is just how many people visit. People don't need to visit your site for you to get a high PR.
The more websites you have linking to your site, the higher your PR.

There is a relation in a way. The relation is SEO as you mention above, but because PR is so hyped up and overrated people seem to talk more about sites that have a high PR and link to them and things in forums which in return will gain your more traffic.

I've had a site go from PR5 to PR7 - no increase in traffic.

I've had a site go from PR6 to PR5 and increase traffic.

So I'd say no real correlation.

Same here. I've got PR5 websites but nothing's changed when they were PR0.

PR indicates backlink popularity but not traffic. Although there are probably not many PR7+ sites without decent traffic, there are plenty of PR1-3 sites with tons of traffic.

Now suppose you have one site and you are providing good services and good content to read so people always comes.

PR importent for that site which site has content For example you have directory, article site and forum with good PR then people come on your site to get backlinks because of your site have good PR.

You have PR 5 article site then people of course come to your article site to submit articles so they get some boost on your site.

In short your site have PR then you get more traffic. General public don't understand what is PR so they visit your site for good stuff. But webmasters visit your site only for 2 reason. If you providing some thing new or your site has good PR and traffic.

How are you getting that much Page Rank.

I desgined my site 1 month back. Upto now i didn't get any page rank.
