My vote with Firefox. It is secure, fast and compatible to download add-ons and much more!

Browser security is only as good as the user! If the user has a habit of trawling the seedy side of the Internet and visting sites that result in popup and popunder windows, you're always going to be at risk to some degree.

I've had to move over to IE7 *shudders* at home as Firefox has a habit of crashing my PC. I'm starting to run it in safe mode to try and diagnose the problem, but when you've got work to do you just want something that is stable.

Firefox seems to be updated more often than IE, so it would appear that problems are identified and patched sooner. Firefox also has a lot of useful extensions available that help with productivity.

I certainly don't think you're asking for trouble by using IE7.

I'm also surprised to hear that Mozilla belongs to Google.

I switched to Opera when Firefox stated feeding updates to me without asking me if I wanted to have my browsing disrupted. It's GREAT. A beautiful, elegant, thoughtful browser with extras so cool it's hard to believe nobody else does them.

And I notice that since using it my scans and cleanups are coming up "clean" and "no threats" and like that.

Unfortunately, I run into a few sites that won't work with it. They tell you to use IE or Firefox. This seems like a badge of incompetence to me, but there it is. One of them...Stumbleupon.

Whoa! Just minutes after I posted that, two things happened:

I had to reboot my computer for one of those unwanted, do-it-right-now Windows upgrades and when I came back hotmail.com wouldn't recognize my browser. Basically insists on cookies, but gives no instructions for accepting them in Opera...which is set for them and works on other sites.

So I reluctantly used IE to check my hotmail box...and there was an email from Stumbleupon telling me to install their toolbar and use their site.

I just joined that site, don't want any cluttery freakin toolbars, and found the site the most opaque, useless thing I've ever seen. MAYBE I will use the site, but not if they keep sending me pest mail.

Is there a word for like like evil co-incidences?
