Default Google Spreadsheet

Anyone familar with Google Spreadsheet? Apparently Google is in the testing stages of a spreadsheet program that will be web-based and free. They intend for it to compete with Excel, eventually, and one very interesting feature is you can have large groups of people all working on the same spreadsheet.

You can sign-up and try to get into their limited test:

I signed up a few days ago, but have not heard anything yet. I think the first version is fairly primitive, but I see some interesting potential there.

I don't think reaction has been too positive:

I feel a bit strange giving Google access to all my data. They can already read all my emails, see my webstats, see my visiting of websites etc. I should also now give them insights into my business documents?

It's amazing to see google enter yet another field. They are 100 times more ambitious than microsoft ever was. What ever happened to just being a search engine?

Yeah, I agree with what some of you have mentioned. I wouldn't feel comfortable putting financial data into a spreadsheet on a web based program. The security would have to be top-notch.

Another problem is that who would have access to the information. I wouldn't be surprised if the authorities would come by with warrents.

Google Spreadsheet is a good effort but I have some reservations regarding sharing my data online. I am sure there are many who share the same thoughts.

i think its amazing how Google have managed to replicate so many of the features within Excel, in a browser.

Other than the issue of storing sensitive data (which is obivously a big concern regardless of what Google say!), i swear by it. Its so useful when youre writing a document which you need to pick up from work and home.
