A great way of increasing your backlinks is to submit to search engine friendly directories. There is a whole website dedicated to them which is viewable here - http://info.vilesilencer.com/ - and it contains a HUGE list of places to submit.
This should be one of your first ports of call with every new site and submit to all those directories to gain higher PR and search engine placements. |

There is an auto submitter somewhere, posts your link in thousands of directories. If I find the link, I'll let you know.
Directories are a place many webmasters forget - so submitting them does give you an edge over the competition. |

The only directory i've every found to be useful is the DMOZ directory. Others haven't really done anything as Google likes to use only relevant backlinkes, and dosen't seem to like directorys so I've never really worried about them.

I'd say directories normally only help with if your sites are new or are not a huge site/don't have an insane amount of BL's. Simon, you said you made $17K in a day before, lol, I don't think you really need too many directory links
.I'd be very interested in knowing of an automatic directory submitter though. |

I think directories are useful as a basic link building plan, nothing more and nothing less. They are not going to dramatically effect your rankings, but they will provide some starter links, branding and possibly some traffic.
Just do not expect much from them. Even the bigger one will not drive much traffic or help to your ranking. |
