I have recently become a customer of Market Safe and I know this discussion goes back some time however I thought I would just inform you all that Market Safe now accept a verbal cancellation of automatic renewal. having read some of the posts on here I made sure to ask about the automatic renewal before sign up and apparently there was an article in a national newspaper that also states they have changed their renewal process.
I think it is great that they have addressed the problems with their auto renewal practices and are finally listening to their customers, maybe more companies should follow suit, I have been stung by other companies in the past who give you a 30 day free trial then if you don’t cancel in writing sign you up for a yearly subscription. Anyways, I have not fully used the service as of yet but I know I will be making full use of it soon, have some urgent marketing to do before everyone goes on holidays and the sales die! I would recommend everyone to have a look at the Market Safe site if you use any other companies for marketing, I have previously spent a lot of cash on lists in the past and none let me create my own online when I need them. I just hope what I post is right and the verbal cancellation of auto renewal is accepted or im definitely going to be in trouble, although I also have received a confirmation of declined auto renewal which imp sure would stand up in court! wow - I totally signed up for this a while back.
I had always wanted one of these and I had this dude call me up, more than once and he was really persistent. He spent over an hour on the phone and he kept whittling the price down. At one point he even said 'there must be some point that you'd buy it, like if it was 10p' and i said yes, and eventually he whittled £800 down to £150. the only reason i want it is for the telephone preference stuff so i can demonstrate that i checked. However, no one has that, none of the companies that i have looked up have had it, except ME. Thats what really got me, because he cold called me, and sold me a product that i would use to ensure that i wouldn't break the law, and he had not looked me up, on his system. It took them ages to get the password to me, they really were hopeless. Then they had a 'glitch' that meant all the companies i looked up got put into the tracker section (which you have to pay for) Its an ok system but to be honest, i dont need it. accounts are nearly always 2 years out of date and seldom show turnover. It is slightly interesting but there are definatly better systems out there. i'll definatly be cancelling, very soon, or at least giving my advance notice. i've only had it 2 months but i really cant stand the guy that sold it to me, and that makes it suck. And the fact that they reduced it from £800 to £150 is laughable. objectivly its an ok service, but its the sort of company that sets common sense alarm bells ringing at every stage. They are just inherently dosgy. The interface is very old hat as well, definatly 800-600 compliant and little else. |

ok so i called them up, some girl, not very helpful, had to ask her 4 times what ATN sttod for and if I had it right, each time she wittered on about getting it in 48 hours. Felt bad, as usual when I had to say sternly NO WHAT DOES ATN STAND FOR AND DO I HAVE IT RIGHT. Only then did she note that it was ATRN and that she didn't know what it stood for, but i think she did. Anyway, they dont except verbal cancellations, I double confirmed and she went off to ask someone. To cancel you have to e-mail customer.support@marketsafeuk.com
Suppose 10 months is plenty of warning? Bloody hope so. |

So I didn't get my notice of advance termination, and so i called today to find out. they didn't tell me why they didn't respond to my e-mail like i was forced to do, but they managed to send me the notification today. So I have it. I states that the automatic renewal flag has been removed.
So nothing spectacular. Expires April 2009. Tune back then. |

We are customers of Marketsafe- but my colleague signed us up for it just before she left, and didn't tell anybody! So we were 'members' for a year (fully paid up) but didn't use the service.
They did contact us before renewing though - I had a look around the system and it seemed to be useful - so I signed up for a second year, and I have downloaded a lot of addresses. I am not aware that our contract with them is auto-renewing though - this was not made clear when I signed up! |
