I've got an opportunity to rebrand Platinax on a kosher business[keyword].co.uk domain name.
It'll cost a little bit, but at present I'm thinking that rebranding as business[keyword].co.uk would offer better development opportunities than as Platinax. Sure, Platinax is unique, and I do personally like it - but in business terms, it's frequently mis-spelled, unpronouncable, and generally too clever for it's own good. I'm curious what people here think - preserve Platinax as a brand already, or whether rebranding could offer real benefits in terms of general perceptions of the site by third parties?

Hi Brian
Branding this site with an appropriate keyword can only help. It'll rank better, it'll bring in more members/hits and will essentially become a more easily accessed resource... but i'm sure you know this already ![]() I can't see a reason to hang onto the Platinax name that isn't overcome by the benefit of a keyword name. Go for it!

I think only you really know the answer Brian, as you are privy to the behind the scenes info, costs, time... Either way good luck with your decision.
However, the forum RSS feed could do with a more distinctive title rather than business forums. |

In terms of traffic, the [keyword] element isn't strong, but I think having "business" at the fore of the domain will help better communicate the site's remit, meaning, and purpose.
I like Platinax as a name, and I like the suggestion of Platinum from it. But...I don't think it evokes a sense of "business", which is why I'm exploring a more obvious alternative as a name. However, I'm going to take time with this decision - I need to ensure that if I make a rebranding decision, that it's done with considered care and forethought, instead of done on the fly as I often seem to do.

Well as someone else has said only you can deciede...Maybe a better more business named URL would be better. But then again I prefer something different.
Maybe it is old fashioned...or words to that effect, but I like brands that are not so obvious. Everything is business this or buinsess that...I think the current branding gives you something different... |

I personally like "Platinax", it has something to it, I can't describe it, but it's different.
Could you not use the keyword domain and Platinax? Perhaps work in the business[keyword] into the fabric of Platinax, but still keep the brand.

I'm doubtful that it is Brian however I agree rebranding maybe a good idea but if you want that unique individuality that Platinax brings I would stick with it as it's incomparable and distinct.

Brian I have just looked at your My Space, AND your scfi forum. Your enourmous, and your a freak (lol, watch the lol) you know. They dont make them like you anymore.
I always type platinax wrong. I know it has something to do with platinum but I also get it confused with phalanx, a type of soldier. and the a, or e before the x. start up is a good key word. I always google that when I want to see how other start ups are doing. Its hard to define good words that truly reflect your niche. For example, business also includes ICI, HSBC and other mainstream big business, and entrepanuer no one can spell, not even me. small business is a good one, I also often google that, but business small start up .com isn.t really that great. Home work, or home business is another, working from home. business internet entrepenaurs? You should draw up a list of actual search terms that you want to be found for. I cant believe how big that scifi board is and how back water this place is. And what did you buy 80k posts for? OMG..... you should be bottled and put in a musium - Mr Turner, collector of 0's and 1's. |
