Default AdSense and spidering

I've seen it claimed in a few places that having AdSense will help get your site indexed better.

I have to say that I consider this as something of a fallacy. Yes - you will get a Googlebot coming regularly to your site pages if you display AdSense. BUT this is the AdSense Mediabot - it says so in it's spider ID: "Mediapartners-Google/2.1".

Let's be clear - this is not an indexing bot. That function is taken care of by "googlebot".

The mediabot's job is simply to ensure that the AdSense is displaying something remotely relevant to the page it is displayed upon. It does not index your site for Google search results.

It should also be noted that if you find you have rather a lot of public service ads on your site - and you have been running Google AdSense for some time - then you may find that you have problems with Google not being able to index your site pages. This is a very common problem for forum owners who still have session IDs enabled, or else use a form of dynamic page software that Google cannot easily index (YABB SE was notorious for this).

Anyway, just a pointer for you.
