Unfortunately, you'll always get people who insist on getting their inappropiate advertising everywhere in the belief that people will click on it. As you close down 1 route they will work on another route.
I guess when searching you need to be more specific so that the engine can filter some of the dross for you.

SEO makes perfect sense if you want to rank highly in the search engines, but be aware there are some very bad SEO companies out there!
I know a guy who was told that they could get his site on page one of google and if they did not then he did not have to pay. They did not get him onto page one of Google and he did not have to pay, but they did manage to get his site banned from Google and it took him ages to get it unbanned! |

SEO is like grass cutting, either you stay on top of it, or you have an overgrown mess.
Then you decide, do I want to regularly cut it myself or pay someone to do it for me. Personally I fall into the cut it myself category, and never get time to do it! ![]() (note to self: must SEO my OWN sites) |

I just think seo is a much slower process than previously, and can take years not months. It helps to know your industry too. You have to really get involved in it to be successful, and be willing to work continuously over time.

Stating that SEO is a con is the same as saying that media advertising is deceptive and inappropriate. Whether one likes it or not, SEO is the way to go when you want to do well online - and I don't think this has any chance of changing in the near and even distant future.
