Online advertising for me has been the most effective as cost per sale is so much cheaper. Adwords, and overture have been effective as well as networking in community forums like this one.

Digg.com is a good one to share your site's articles with the rest of the world. Reddit.com is another one. Myspace.com, Tagworld, and Facebook are also very useful if you have friendly friend list, and they willing to visit your blogs there. Place a magnet logo onto your car's sides and back. Pass out business card. Get lot of cheap white T-shirt and put your company logo on, and pass them at Starbucks. Ask friends, family members, and anyone you know of spread the word about your website. If you attend college, ask the college newspaper to write about your website. Get press release. Attend forums like this specific one. Don't ever try spamming, it will not work! Write a blog about your website! Make a video about your website and place it on YouTube, Revver, MetaCafe, and so on. Use stumbleupon extension on Firefox. Try post some more articles that related to your website on NowPublic.com.

As you notice, there are thousands of way to get free traffic to your website. All require time and efforts, but not cash. If you are rich, you can always go the shortcut way by paying for big advertisements through well known advertisers. Or you can do the ways I described above, and think up some of your own. Good Luck!

Good tips blogmywaydotorg!

We use cheap business cards from vista print - you can get them for free (subject to pp) and literally leave them where ever we go - the gym, the cinema, take away, picking up the kids, starbucks, mcds - wherever. We get great responses from this - we call it Card Attack. Remember to include a promo code on the cards so you can track your results but highly affective. One of my favourite methods!

Referrals is easily the best source of sales, IMO. Certainly a small business.
