Default Minimum wage employees

I don't know about anyone else, but I personally consider the use of minimum wage employment to be nothing better than a way of creating low morale, lower productivity, lower value products, and damaging the overall profit potential of a company. In my opinion, a lot of companies employ at minimum wage levels because they are too busy bean counting, rather than hold any real wider vision that includes employees, and their potential to increase a company's profitability.

However, is this a supportable statement?

Sorry Brian but Im not sure I will be looked on ina good manner after this but!!!

Min wage problems:

1: does not take into account performance paid work, commsion only ( yes burger flippers with attidute) sales people etc.
2: When you have to provide a min wage that is an increase on thier existing salary the person who earns a bit more wants to keep earning more than them so wants a pay rise and this riples all the way up.

So I would like to see it the other way i.e. very very small basics and paid on performance to the greatest extent possible.

3: if people are underpaid MOVE JOB and get a better wage for the same thing.

Heh, there's nothing wrong with having a different opinion.

My concern is principly one of morale - a company with good morale as being more efficient. We constantly hear about how many working days are lost due to people lying about being ill - but if they really enjoyed their job in the first place would someone really be so eager to ring in sick? And that's just one issue where I think decent pay can work to have a very obvious effect. I'm sure there are more.

Lots of ways to increase company morale, you dont have to just increase wages.

Increase paid holidays, make lunch longer, make the working enviorment more appealing etc.

Indeed - pay alone isn't the answer.
