Link vault?

I have just been reading a lens on squidoo about Link vault (http://www.squidoo.com/link-vault) and have carefully read the reasons why this is different from link farming. As someone who is always on the lookout for quality links, I am nevertheless aware of the dangers of link building stategies that promise "great SEO benefit" without the effort.

So, what is your opinion? Is it for real? Can this really be true?

Link Vault I believe has the reputation of link farming. I believe there's been a lot of chatter about sites using Link Vault getting banned. Personally, I've never touched it, nor plan to.
