Now I am told it is up and running again doing well. I just got a notice earlier this week.

I applied for DMOZ ages ago and the really annoying thing is that they don't even reply to your messages!

It is downright annoying when your competitiors are listed, but you are not as so many sites place such an high regard on being listed in dmoz.

Especially when your site is better then your competitors lol

There are so many other options now that I don't see much value in trying to get anything listed on DMOZ and, as someone mentioned earlier, if they don't accept ecommerce sites, it is useless for me.

Once you submit your URL for submission it then takes a while for the system to place it in front of the editor, only then when the editor logs in and reviews your site will any progress be made.
One thing that a lot of submissions do incorrectly is not applying for the correct category which doesn't particularly help matters.
I don't know how much value Google places on DMOZ since their crash, but I know that they Google hasn't downloaded Dmoz's dump for a while.
Even so it does get you a lot of unreciprocated links, which has certainly helped me to get noticed by a couple of the slightly obscure search engines.

Dmoz will never be dead, unless the competition improves

Personally Dmoz has been dead for over 4 years for me. I submitted many sites over 4 years ago and their still waiting to get in.

Lol!! Still waiting, too.

What's ironic is that when I submitted Platinax 3 years ago, when it was finally accepted, it was placed in the wrong category.

dmoz is a waste of cyber space.

you cant get in, and whats there is crap.

for practical purposes its almost useless as well.

the only benefit is that you can include search on your site, a directory, but with Google offering the same its hardly a sharp edge to their rusty old battleaxe.
