Marketing a Joke Book

Alrighty There People!

I've got a query. I've just produced a joke book, which is available online only.

What is the best way to market this? I have approached bookshops to see if they will stock it, but generally you need to speak to people further up the chain, who say 'no'. I've approached joke websites and asked them to link. So far, I have managed to sell a few copies, and, to be quite honest, it's only really a hobby of mine - I have no aspirations to be an author.

I recently left cards/bookmarks with local bookshops advertising the book.

Anything else I can do to promote this book?

I suggest going to a writers' website like absolutewrite.com and visiting the forums where they talk about self-publishing. There are great resources for marketing books on there.

Thanks Brian, some good tips there, appreciate that. I have a 'Sneak Peek' on my website (signature), and from there you can go to Lulu, where the book is hosted.

Thought I'd give you an update on my plans.

I'm going to buy 50 copies of my book, and do a booksigning - either in a bookshop, like Waterstones, if they'll have me, or perhaps in a supermarket like ASDA, Tesco, Sainsbury's etc. Nice big advertising of the book, some hardcopies, bookmarks with the weblink on it, and try to generate some sales that way.
