It is known recommendation to visit and post in the Internet forums for creating links to your web site using the member's signature.
One of the targets is the search engines. The other target are the forum visitors. They might eventualy read the signature and follow the link. The question is: Do you read and visit the links in the forum members' signatures? |

Signature links used to be great for Google until around September 2003, when they were extensively devalued. Now they are weighted very poorly.
I do still use signature links, but namely for human clickthroughs - they aren't a strong way to get traffic, but if you use enough forums you can attract curious people - especially those who have just joined the forum you're posting in, and are happy to join new ones. 2c.

i read them. not so much because im interested in the services but because it tells you about the person. strange notion i know. but you can tell straight away wether a person is just spamming or touting or is looking to read the forums.

I will visit a signature link if it catches my eye. It does not necessarily have to be attached to a good post, although that can get me more focused on what the signature says, as I tend to have sig blindness.

It's quite true that sig links do not have the importance they used to, but they are considered small one way links anyway.
About visiting the links by people, that's the same story about the targetted traffic, if your links offers something for a special group of people and those groups are visiting the forum, you will have visitors. |

You really should use anchor text with your signature links because it assists search engine results better. Generally people will be searching Google for free advertising not JustOneUK so it is better to have links for your keywords and not just for your domain name. Brian, I haven't seen it anywhere that links other than guestbooks have been noticably devalued, have you got any further info on this? (even blog spamming still remains "unpunished") James. |
