Default Opteron increases market share

AMD's Opteron processors are increasingly in demand, and taking away Intel's previously safe makets:

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) continues to increase its market share of the server processor market, now accounting for over 20% of x86 server processors in Q1 of this year, according to Mercury Research.

The company looks so inviting that IBM, who has normally only distributed AMD chipsets in higher end solutions, is now looking at options to more widely distribute them in lower-end servers.

It follows recent successes that Hewlett-Packard and Sun have had with sales of AMD chipset servers.
I'm quite a fan of AMD and am very disappointed with my recent Intel PC purchase. Also, Platinax runs on an AMD Dual Opteron server.

Default Re: Opteron increases market share

You are right when you say the opterons are in demand, I sold my entire stock within a week of purchasing!! They are being snapped up by overclockers and gamers especially. The opterons are sterling overclockers and represent excellent performance at very competetive prices! I have built my own system around an opteron 146 (s939) and am very impressed with it! The whole opteron family are great CPU's and knock the socks off Intel's offerings!!

Hi HexSys, and welcome to Platinax.

I never realised the over-clocking issue would play a role in that - quite surprised Intel's not caught up on it.
