Had two salespeople turn up today - one of the first things they stated was: "I'm not trying to sell anything".
Maybe it's intended to disarm consumers, but even if they're selling the best product service in the world, if they lie and deny that they actually are salespeople, then why am I going to pay them any attention?

I'm simply going to save the stock reply:
"Good, because I'm not buying" whereupon I can then close the door.

Good answer!
When we had the bakery and shop, salespeople where a big problem, I once chased one out with a broom, he just wouldn't shift. He was trying to sell pillows and bedding in a bakery..lol Some are just mad and I bet you never had to throw out a Harry Chrishner from your offices. Jayne |

I run a direct marketing company that undertakes quite a bit of tele sales/marketing and I have also trained sales staff, and know that some sales people are a breed of there own!!!
I know that there are many companies out there that offer a free trial period for their products or services and in that respect they (the salesman) may argue that they're not trying to sell you anything!!!! However what they are trying to do is make you dependant upon what is being offered. Most sales personnel know that people only tend to buy from people they trust and if you can make a salesman realise that you know he/she has lied they will give up a lot easier (just a tip)!!! The best sales people will look to establish a need and offer a solution which is something that we are proud of doing. We tend to find that 80% of the cold calls that we get are from the likes of students/college leavers that have no training in place to be able to hold a good business conversation?????? |

Ah but this happens a lot, just is slightly different ways
Many small companies in the Hi-tech send so called or genuine geeks to speak to customers i.e. "I am the TD and not a salesperson so I might not put our solution across the best, but at the end of the day it is my job to makes sure it works for you" At the end of the day every person who interacts with prospects and clients is a salesperson, some are just more open and honest about it than others. Everyone also knows there is no such thing as a free lunch. If anyone talks about thier products and services, they are selling to you. |

Yes from the receiving end its very annoying. Lot of this may be to do with the trened to outsource all the calling rather than keeping in-house.
Being (once - for my sins) doing the calling (as an agency) we were briefed very strictly by the company that this was a service call providing help and advice (the fact they would then sign up and get a real sales call from a sales professional was neither here nor there) so we were made to stick to the script. And of course we got paid by volumes (so had to make the call) with bonus for conversions (but not enough) So. |
