Here's one that's starting to annoy me now,
Getting calls for companies who want to optimize/improve our adwords campaigns. They're becoming more frequent as time goes on. The thing is, I just twigged today that these gits are getting our numbers by clicking on the Adwords ads, so not only do we have to put up with the usual rubbish, we are also paying for the privilige of it Cheers K |

I went through a phase of asking them if they could hold and putting the phone down to one side and carrying on with my work.
I find the hardest thing of all is to determine if they are legitimate. For example, I had a call from my bank a while ago but because they are outsourced to India I thought it was a sales call. They started off, is that Mr such and such and i'm sort of trying to figure out what they want, but you have to as in this case, even though i thought it was telesales it was my bank calling regarding an ongoing issue I had open with them. Its disconcerting. Funnily enough last friday I had a recruitment consultant call up. It was weird, he said is this such and such and i said yes, and then he asked for my web site and so i told him and then he started to talka load of waffle and I was trying to figure out what he was saying and after a while i had to ask him where he was calling from and when he said a recruitment agency I said well I dont employ, and then he said no no, you have the wrong end of the stick, I want to compile a list of technology companies to do business with and was wondering if I could put you on my list. Basically they recruit it people and get loads of high end people through but they place them, but he also got people from time to time asking if he could do their web site and of course he couldn't so he was creating a list of people he could refer in such a situation, and said in fact could he send me business. I said yeah, ok and that was that, it was all a bit empty. I was waiting for the catch. Personally I think there was more to it like he was assessing my business either to send me staff or something else. gcsltd.com it was. Personally i dont mind telesales people. |

The ones who don't get to the point are really annoying - had someone from some advertising place asking about my work, and I couldn't tell if he was a potential customer or salesperson - he was being that vague. I eventually had to tell him to stop and get to the point, and even then he wouldn't be clear, so I told him to just tell me how much it cost. Yep, just a sales call asking for £20,000 to talk to the marketing director of Zurich. No that isn't a good deal.

TPS is a great idea and thank you Anthony for bringing it up.
In the UK, every company should check thier data against the register to see if any person in company or the whole company have opted out. A few key points of note on this. 1: A person in a company or a number of people can opt out but if the main office number has not be registered, you can still call the company but not the person's DDI unless they give it to you. i.e. the HR manager of company x who has a DDI can opt out but you can call the main office and ask for her, but if you called her DDI you would be breaking the law. 2: Homeowners need to only register once. A company needs to reregister ever year so companies that have opted out could well forget to reapply and hence should not be removed from your database! |
