Out of interest, have there been any previous cases of Google blacklisting a major company? I'm just thinking about this from Google's perspective.. if people can't find big companies, won't that reflect badly on Google?

Indeed - big companies are much more likely to get away with it, because their absense would have a more significant impact on the results Google serves.

If I remember right, even Microsoft has been caught using doorway pages on microsoft.com. Of course, you didn't see the site delisted.

But smaller, less known sites? It's dancing with the devil.

Well, it majorly sucks if big companies can get away with stuff that little ones wouldn't. That basically means that they're able to lengthen the lead they already have by using tactics that would get the little guys delisted.

Normally that would be the case - but it looks as if Google is trying to send a clear message to the big companies - bmw.de appears to have been delisted:
