I kind of preferred it they way it was, it feels a little compressed, forced...... its lost a little weight....is the forum on a diet?

I have to admit, I do prefer forums to cover most the screen - ie, 100% width.

In this instance, to help with the growing sense of identity with Platinax, I'm experimenting with the site design being harmonised in all sections - so wherever you are on Platinax, it roughly appears the same.

For the moment, I'd like to see how this current forum set up plays out. Still, everything in webmastering is fluid - I'm sure I'll be tweaking and tinkering again in future.

I agree with Gary, Brian. Would it be possible to increase the width and still have the left and right columns. I kinda liked the forum post information we had before -

you need to listen to your customers Brian

and why have you allowed a competitor to advertise? You can't be that hard up...surely ?

Platinax needs to generate advertising revenues to support the legal costs. I used to think Teneric was a competitor, too.

Sure, Britecorp could cover Platinax's legal costs - but they are different companies, and I'm keen to ensure they operate transparently as separate entities. Britecorp even pays Platinax for its own ad here.

As for the width issue - I'm going to look into how to set up something in the user preferences, so that they can opt for full screen if they wish. I think that would be a third way to suit everyone.

ah yes on one topic, but I am not advertising my business forum

I understand what you are trying to achieve with your overall scheme but do you need to?

I have one scheme for my site and a different for the forums

I think folks using VB forums come to expect a certain layout

I set my width to 98% but even people complain about that (in that it should be 100%)

That sounds about right.

As for competition - I figure Platinax is in competition with nobody. There's some overlap with other sites, but I figure the different business forums strive for their own unique identity and content.

And because of the recent expenses, I consider it pretty critical for Platinax to be able to stand on it's own two feet. It was always intended to generate revenues from advertising. Time to push it forward on that.
