So I'm *finally* getting around to giving Press Releases serious attention, and am aiming to send one out this week to give some companies I'm friendly with some extra attention - raise their profile.
I'm aware that Press Releases have SEO advantages, and I'm definitely keen to tap into that. However, I'm actually more interested at present in writing a Press Release for human users, that journalists would find useful and report on if possible. Anyway, I've not yet sent one, but I'll going to add a number of resources below of webpages I've referenced and found useful: Help on writing an effective press release:

Added a direct link to the Bizal resources.
![]() Also - I tried a (otherwise reputable) company that claims specialisation in SEO for Press Releases. Very disappointed. They were very late replying, and rather than answer my initial sales questions, instead proceeded to include an "optimised" release which consisted of little more than added a couple of keywords I had no interest in into the text. For this they decided to try and charge me $550 for the very same service PR Web direct advertise as $360.

I tried a press release last year, I must admit to being a bit over enthusiastic with the wording and the release had to be previewed by a human "editor" before it was let loose on the world...
It was sent back to me numerous times because it was basically just an advert - which in all honesty it was But it's hard to sell yourself without actually selling yourself (if you see what I mean)...

I had a look at a few different services, but only a handful actually allowed an active URL in the page body - meaning even a basic link was not active.
So far I've only used: http://www.prweb.com http://www.prleap.com/ http://i-newswire.com/ http://www.click2newsites.com http://www.free-press-release.com Seems to be all for now...

This is an interesting thread. The info here is something that we were looking for recently. Will report back soon on the effectiveness of press releases.
