Google have turned their purchase of Urchin web stats into a "free" web-based service - Google Analytics:
http://www.google.com/analytics/ Now you can send Google all the information you can about how your website operates, so that Google can use this to help monetize their services. There are no privacy protections - not even for your visitors - just a "free lunch" to help enrich Google database of information. Anyone looking to sign up for it?

Heh... I hadn't considered that...
The one piece of information Google would love to have is how much traffic they lose to MSN and Yahoo, and this helps to fill that gap for them. |

It's not just that - it provides a whole range of information that Google could process for a variety of services.
Normally, a free stats program is good news - but this one is covered with "advantages to Google over consumer". In my opinion Google are going too far with data-mining - I plan to remove a great deal of my AdSense in 2006. Hurry up Yahoo! and MSN!!

Have you looked at the extra features in the sitemaps section (not analytics) where they tell you what keywords they index you for and what keywords people are clicking on.
There's some interesting feedback there that I thought I'd see in Analytics, but has turned up in SiteMaps. |

I have heard great things about Google Analytics, however I have not had the chance to test it as they have introduced a waiting list to participate, I think I have been on the list for about 6 weeks now and have heard nothing.

The invitations are starting to flow through, but don't hold your breath.
Significant shortcomings include
Over at google sitemaps you can submit and verify a site without having a sitemap and you get some very interesting google stats. Worth a look while you're waiting.
