For now, Google says only that it's trying to provide content owners an easy way to "give us access to their content."
Yeah, right - I want to give Google proprietary rights to use my content!!

Personally, I'm not keen. Google come across as a company that cares little about its users and the people it deals with - so long as it's own obscure interests are protected, then Google thinks that is fine. The recent moves to continue with scanning copyrighted books despite that they are being sued for this by organised groups of big publishers and authors, shows the sort of corporate disregard for other people's interests that would fit better with how Microsoft were seen in the 90's.

Yep! The consequence of to much power in a relatively short space of time, I think.
Yet I feel that the general impression of google appears to be this 'big friendly fluffy bunny' of a company. No doubt that will change , if they don't.

Google were always seen as aloof, but while their presence was effectively limited to tech subjects it wasn't seen as a problem - but Google are now trying to work in wider and more general consumer channels, and although I can see people turning to the brand simply on the issue of size of brand, I can also see a lot of consumer reaction against it.
