Default Millionaire rapist gets free £10k month police protection

A man who won £7m on Lotto Extra while jailed for rape is to be relocated after being tracked down by the Sun newspaper, the Home Office has said.

The Sun says a £10,000-a-month Home Office operation has been protecting his identity since his March release.

Hoare won the jackpot in August last year while on temporary release from prison. He reportedly earns £30,000-a-month interest on his fortune.

He had been serving life after being jailed in Leeds for attempting to rape a 59-year-old teacher in 1989.

Hoare was also jailed several times for a string of sex attacks, including rape, two attempted rapes and three indecent assaults, during the 1970s and 1980s.

Wearside Women In Need director Clare Phillipson said it was "infuriating" taxpayers were funding Hoare's protection, and £10,000 a month "could offer protection to hundreds of women and their children who were experiencing sexual assault".
I think the last point definitely needs underlining - the state is spending a lot of money to protect a serial sex attacker - but I bet his victims never received the same level of interest.

It does seem unjust. But it's also improbable, and therefore hard to legislate against.

It's worth pointing out that the british taxpayer is paying all this money to protect him not just from normal people, but from members of the press, particularly the Sun. If they were'nt hounding him then he wouldn't need so much protection.

We'd probably all feel a lot better if Hoare donated £6m to some charities that support the victims of his crimes. He'd still be left with enought to live out the rest of his life in comfort.

The legal system never ceases to amaze! They go out their way to help a criminal but a victim on the overhand.

Surely the state shouldn't have to pay. The monthly cost should come out of his winnings, maybe have a penalty in place of some kind.
