At least 18 police officers have been hurt in a second night of rioting in Belfast and counties Antrim and Down.

At one point a mob of about 700 in east Belfast hurled petrol bombs and opened fire on the security forces.

Vehicles were hijacked and burned across the city. The trouble followed riots on Saturday sparked by the re-routing of an Orange Order march.

In Bangor, a woman in her 70s was injured when she was attacked by a mob throwing stones at her car on Newtownards Road, just 500 metres from her home.

All the windows were smashed but she managed to drive away. The woman, who did not want to be named, was said to be extremely shocked.

At nearby Fernagh Avenue, a pregnant woman and a man were dragged from their car by four men during an attempted hijacking.

I guess even public street-beating wouldn't be enough for the cowards who do these sort of things.

I heard about this while I was away for the week. It's bloody sickening.. I can't understand how people can use religion as an excuse for these kinds of acts - I mean come on, do they honestly think Jesus would have approved? I'm not even religious, but even I think they could do with a good slapping..
