Hello,
My name is Samantha, I am a college student, and I am trying to start my own cleaning business. I am having trouble finding stores that will allow me to post my flyers. I am on a limited income and can't afford to advertise in newspapers, or phone books yet. The only place I have found so far that is willing to post my flyers is the career resource center at my school. Any Ideas? |

Hi Sammykins, and welcome to Platinax.
![]() First of all, best of luck with the new business - secondly, something you may find more helpful is distributing leaflets door to door for your services. The printing business can be pretty competitive, and I'd expect you should be able to get 1,000 leaflets for under £50 (shop around and see what happens...). Then if you locate a relatively affluent neighbourhood, drop the leaflets through the door personally. I suspect that a basic investment of time and money in that way could yield some important leads. Hope that helps.

What kind of cleaning service are we talking about?
If it's house cleaning as Brian suggests then I'd suggest getting a sandwich board made with some details about your business on it e.g. "Samantha's cleaning service cleaning up another house in your neighbourhood". Every house you clean, take it with you and set it up outside. It's reusable and lets your customers give a pseudo personal recommendation to all their neighbours

Hello Samantha,
Where I live lots of people put adverts in shop windows. That might be cost effective, if you want to clean local private homes. I love the sandwich board idea above, it's a known fact if one person on a street does something, it's highly likely that the neighbours will follow suit. If you want to target business for cleaning then you will need to take a different approach, contact them directly. I wish you well, in any case, Best wishes, Ruth Stewart |
