I wanted to comment on the increasing topic of defragmentation. It seems that due to current high-download speeds, coupled with many peoples need for many more programs (including their updating, installing-uninstalling, etc.) end users to network supervisors are using windows or 3rd party defrag much more frequently.
I personally have noticed that while having run defrag once per week on my home pc (xp sp 2 3.0ghz, 512 RAM, etc.) that my whole family uses) that it has made a noticeable difference in system start-up, and applications and media files seem to be responding better too. -We of course tend to have all manner of programs on there, with larger files being frequently downloaded and photo editing & pictures and so on. I'm now looking at getting a 3rd party defragmenter to handle this regularly and will chat to the IT guy at work. Meanwhile, can anyone recommend a good program to do this? |

Hi Nigel, and welcome to Platinax.
![]() Certainly a defrag program is recommended to help keep your system running smoothly, and there are faster options available than the default Windows install - Roy, do you have any particular recommendations here?
