The problem I have with TrustRank is that it effectively rolls over very similar territory of Hilltop and LocalRank (NewScore) - that of having a specific small corpus of well-regarded sites, which have particular leverage over search.

It does underline one of the key ideas of SEO - to get lots of good quality links for good quality content.

But I'm not convinced that TrustRank does anything but try and emphasise this, rather than bring anything specifically different to the SEO project - excepting perhaps that of emphasising manual reviews on sites outside of quality parameters.

It’s getting complex for the average webmaster to comprehend. My old fashion way of trial and error and building a service for the user will have to do. There is so much unsubstantiated rumor being proclaimed as fact and SOE battles as to what is right and what is wrong it’s confusing as to what is white hat, what is black hat and what color hat the supposed authority is wearing.

I have to admit, whilst a year ago I was immersed in theory, I'm now pretty much resigned to focus on the core basics - quality sites, quality content, quality links.

Of course, the challenge is developing the quality content, and gaining the quality links - which is why it takes time and effort to develop a quality site in the first place.

IMO.
