Default Spam Arrest: "retroactively editing reality"

Interesting story - anti-spam company, Spam Arrest, once sent out a load of e-mail spam in a marketing campaign, which was inevitably commented upon at the time.

Now the company is trying to get websites that mention this act to remove the information, on account that it may 'mislead' newer customers into thinking it is still a current practice.

As one website owner apparently referred to it, Spam Arrest are "retroactively editing reality":

In early 2003, Spam Arrest sent unsolicited marketing pitches to some of the people who had e-mailed Spam Arrest customers, prompting complaints on several Web sites and e-mail discussion lists that have been archived.

Cartmell has asked three of those sites to remove the write-ups because they come up high in Google searches for the company.

The recipient of one such request, Carl Bussjaeger, responded by accusing Cartmell of "retroactively editing reality."

"They did something incredibly wrong," Bussjaeger said in an interview. "It's entirely fair for folks who are considering exposing themselves to Spam Arrest that they have a chance to know what Spam Arrest is capable of doing."

I got to say it's funny when one of your spam emails is an anti-spam company, saying "Do you want to remove spam?" How about we start with you not emailing me in the first place
