Default paypal - help please

Does anyone here use paypal for selling just a unique item? The problem is that paypal have no solution for a unique item ie like art so if someone clicks on my buy now button another person can also in theory buy.

How did you solve this problem? I have searched their developers site and forum but to no avail. Paypal say they have no solution and to go to ebay or make a backend script?

Think the only thing you can do thre is keep an eye on sales and if something has been bought take it off your iste

you could put a clause on your site that you only have on unique item

have you looked at the other online payment schemes
paypal is one of the most expensive one
have a look at fastpay which is run by natwest, also nochex and pppay they might have some solution

hope this helps

If you're working with unique items, then something you may like to try instead is to simply invite e-mail as proof of interest, and then offer a page with the Paypal link once the customer has e-mailed yourself to state their interest and ask to make payment.

The downside is that it means the consumer has to make an extra step in making a purchase - but in a retail environment, that may possibly be to your advantage if it makes sure the purchase is definitely wanted. It also means you can work with Paypal as a processor.

Just 2c.

(For those clients who wish to pay by card) I prepare a custom payment page once the design is finalised and they settle easily that way.
