Default SEO advice please

Hi, having spent quite a lot on having a website built, I find it is not generating enough traffic. The web design company tell me it is because it needs optimizing, and have offered to do it.

They have quoted me what appears to be an excessive ammount to get my products on page one of google for 20 keywords/phrases.

The worry is, I have 1200+ products, some of which already appear on page one for certain search phrases, and have generated little revenue, so how much more will I have to fork out before I see a reasonable ROI.

Also, is there a benchmark figure for this work, and can anyone recommend (independently)a good SEO company. Thanks.

Hi sailelec
You need to establish what the traffic volume is for the key words you are featuring for. It is easy to get to no 1 spot for keywords which no one else is competing for. If you are getting a lot of traffic from those keywords (and the keywords are specific to a particular product) and still not making sales maybe you need to consider your sales copy or price.

So far as bench marking is concerned you need to make sure you are comparing apples with apples. Some keywords are very competitive and require a considerable amount of work and time to feature in.
I hope this helps with your decision making
Cheers Steve

Nobody can guarantee you a place on page 1 of Google, you may be able to pop up there for a time, but nobody can keep you there. Be very cautious of parting with money to anyone who claims to be able to do so.

A good SEO will most probably be able to get you high in searches.

I would also ask the company why they didn't design in the optimization when they built the site?

Drop your details to Brian who owns this site, his company may be able to help you with your SEO needs.

Thank you both for your comments.

I have had all sorts of problems with the site and the company that built it. Some problems are ongoing, so I am reluctant to spend more with them.

So, is SEO the solution ( I don`t know!), and if so, who can I trust to do it?

You mention Brian, monaghan, how would I contact him? Forgive my ignorance but I registered yesterday out of desperation.

regards, Bill

On the home page of internetbusiness.co.uk there's a contact page with necessary details, alternatively visit his company page directly at http://www.britecorp.co.uk/search-engine-optimisation
