Hello,
I've set up a stand alone internet .com site that sells various items including adult R18 dvd titles. This is just internet based and I do not have or ever intend to have an shop or office outlet. I live in the UK and have discovered that here it is Illegal to sell R18 dvd's online from within the UK. (they are only allowed to be sold in person from liscensed shops). I have also discovered that any internet site 'registered' as being based outside the UK can sell to UK and other European customers alike without being in breach of the law as only the UK (within Europe) has this particular restriction on the sale of R18 dvd titles. My question therefore is "Can anyone advise me.... 1) Can I 'register' my internet site as trading from ( eg. Ireland or Spain )etc.? So as to be complying with this UK law, even though I obviously live in the UK and will continue to service my website from there (in practice) 2) In practical terms what will 'registering' my internet .com website involve? - as I usually think of its exsistance as a virtual one in cybersapce (incidentally the site is hosted on a server based in the US if this matters at all). PS : I have put a lot of time and effort in this project and would greatly appreciate any advise or experience you can share with me in regard to finding a solution to this tricky problem.? Many thanks in advance Peter |

I think the big point isn't where the website is hosted or otherwise located - at the end of the day, it's where the administrators of that site are based.
Remember, if you are based in the UK and subject to UK tax laws, then for legal purposes expect your business to be treated as UK domiciled for that purpose. Sorry I can't help further, but the danger is that the only way to get around this would be to recommend breaking one or two laws, and I don;t think I'm in a position to do that. ![]() However, I could be completely wrong - I'm giving a personal opinion here.

Hi Brian,
Many thanks for taking time to reply and you're opinion does seem logical and clear. I must confess that as the key administrator I fully intend to remain UK based, however there is some possibility that I could find a friend located outside the Uk to accept this role on paper perhaps - either way you have hepled provide me with further food for thought...thanks.

buy a house in a god forsaken country, Bulgsria for example where you can get themfor £1000 or Detriot, £50 and trade from there. or get a french/dutch/spanish po box and register yourself through that. although thinking it through i guess you would have to mail the items from overseas as well.
