Arrow Does dark purple do it for you?

Hi guys, I've just redesigned a tech blog and given it a strong purple background in the process.

The website is Digitpedia.com, if you could let me know if you like it or not, it's quite different to the look of most tech sites so am just concerned whether it doesn't really work for a tech site.

Feedback much appreciated. Thanks.

It's easy enough on the eyes. I probably wouldn't have noticed if you hadn't pointed it out.

Personally, no, it's not quite working for me. The colour is too strong and my eye is attracted more to the negative space between sections than it is to the actual content.

Thanks guys.

The problem is if that space isn't there then it just becomes a mass of area with all sorts going on (text, images, adverts etc) and it is terrible on the eyes as you end up looking all over the place.

So don't know how I could get around that apart from a redoing the whole structure of the homepage so it is completely different.

There's nothing wrong with having space, it's only a problem when it draws attention away from the content. That's happening because the purple is such a strong colour. If you had something more neutral, it wouldn't be a problem.

Its certainly a strong colour and that's not necessarily a bad thing - The first thing it reminds me of is PC World as colour is similar.

Yes bumfluff I see exactly what you mean. I tried a range of purples, the lighter they get the worse it looks. They start looking weak and going more pinky, then it just looks wrong. So if I want to keep the purple (the website has always had a purple/silver theme) it is going to have to be this strong a colour.

Im very pleased overall with the reaction it has got, and if i aim for perfection I will send myself nuts! I think for the moment I will keep it as it is and consider my options again next year.

Thanks again for the posts.
