Default PR score, Backlink building.

I'm looking to improve one of my sites PR score of 3 to 4. Can anyone suggest how i go about this. I need to link it to sites that have PR of 5 and 6. Most of the ones i know of sell links at very high prices.
Thanks

Quick question - why are you focused on PageRank?

Simply that the Toolbar PageRank values we see are not a significant part of Google's ranking algorithm - you should really be more focused on getting targeted visitors and targeted anchor text than worry so much about PageRank.

Now that is new to me. I tot the higher your PR value the closer you get to google's first page, which will in trun translate to more trageted visitors. Since you are a specialist, pls throw more light on this. Thanks

That used to be the case 10 years ago, but Google have devalued PageRank as a ranking factor since.

To rank on the first page, you need:

1. Decent on-page SEO
2. Links with a variation of anchor text for the keywords you're targeting.

The more established a website is, the easier it is to rank for more competitive keywords.

Hope that helps.

I've got a site on the 1st page of Google (about 4,100,000 results), this appears to have only a pagerank of 2, so I guess it is not that critical to have a good PR value.

Brian is right. Focus on building the quality of the website structure (on-page SEO, quality internal linking with good use of anchor text) and the quality of content that people love to link to. Quality backlinks and traffic will come in time.

Relevancy of the site is now more important that Google Page Rank though a good Google Page rank means you are going the right way about your link building even though it is does not directly result in a higher ranking.
