Default Are you fed up with negative spin in the mainstream media?

So, is it just me or have you had enough of negative stuff being reported in the "mainstream" media, and is it effecting your clients, friends, associates, and the likes? Are their others out there that have had enough too?

Only last week John Duct wrote about how over the last six months in America, large businesses have lost more than 170,000 jobs whilst small businesses saw over 2000,000 jobs created during that same timeframe. Why isn't this type of information finding its way into mainstream? 28,000 jobs alone in September were created - this is the stuff to brag about. As the owners of small and medium sized businesses we are the ones with the capability to transform this economy. To make a real difference, because we are agile, we are efficient and most of all, we are EFFECTIVE!

I believe in order for businesses to keep their edge, they have to gain insight into their changing environments, those that do, come out of the recessions as winners. Walt Disney, Microsoft and Hewlett Packard were started and rose through the ashes of bad times. It can be done to a large scale, that much is apparent.

We have two choices in times like this. Either we can embrace our reality, find the facts, be bold, stay in the game, and stretch ourselves. The other choice, well that doesn't bare thinking about for me..... which is to focus purely on reducing costs, battening down the hatches, and hoping that by the time the storm has past people will find out that they are ok, or what they are left with they can build something from.

Due to our frustration of the negative talk we went on to take the next step and did some digging to understand why "bad times" are actually "good times". Because lets face it, its not the first time we have hit a recession and we tend to, as a whole, come out of them the other side even if it is not as the same as we went into them.

We are now on a bit of a mission, to buck the trend and spout the positive stuff to keep people focused on the long term and hopefully challenge the medias short-termism.

Does anyone else have some interesting positive facts that buck the trend?

I'm not at all against bad business news - in fact, it's important to be on top of the trend and even recognise it before it happens.

I've been reporting in the news section about the UK property bubble and the danger of a looming recession for about 2 years now. I spotted the dangers well in advance, and think myself better prepared for it.

Without going into my views on this subject, I did wonder at the news headlines the other day along the lines of: -

'Government slashing taxes - and how its going to cost us all billions'

Obviously referring to future tax income. I could just imagine the exact same headline if it was raising taxes. Sometimes you can't do anything right.
