Forum promotion ideas
I have launched my forum recently. Now I would like to discuss with you the most effective forum promotion methods! What advices could you provide on forum policy and rules? What restrictions should I apply for a forum at the first stages? Any other advices and recommendations on how to promote a forum effectively are welcome! Thanks in advance!

I would make sure that you have some kind of anti-spam system in place, I used to run a forum but spent as much time deleting spam comments as actually administering/posting etc.
Dependant on the theme, social networking could work well, otherwise it's the same long slow process as promoting any site. |

yes, Steve_gts I agree with you, I have a lot of spam as well. I think it is a typical situation for all forums and websites!

vbulletin (and a few others as well) have akismet built into their latest releases for anti-spam - plus there are some additional anti-spam tools for vbulletin.

You poor sod - get vbulletin fast before it's hacked!
In 5 years online I've only ever seen two vbulletins hacked - one because an employee give out their password, and the second because the server itself was compromised. In 5 years online, I've always seen discussions on webmaster forums where people complain about their phpbb forum being hacked.
