Just wondering what social networking people are currently using and if so is it working from a business point of view.
Have you generated new clients/customers? Have you made business connections which turn into real business opportunities? |

Only LinkedIn for me. I've tried a couple of others but to be honest, I couldn't be arsed with them. Myspace etc just seem kinda pointless. There's so much inane crap on there that getting a decent business signal beaming out above the noise is way too much trouble for the return. It'd probably be more efficient to just concentrate on my own site.
In fact, I'm only on LinkedIn 'cos I tried it as an experiment. I have a few contacts on there, although I mostly knew them before I joined. We do some business, but I think that would have happened anyway.. |

It doesn't do anything for me. I get invites, but have problems logging on - probably only minor problems, but there's no incentive to even click on the password reminder link.

It's kind've a recommendation/network thing.. you go on, put your info up, and people can link to you. Same as any other social site, I guess, lol. There is an emphasis on business, though. There's also a section where you can ask and answer questions related to your area of expertise. I haven't really taken aprt in that, but I'd imagine it could be a good way to promote your knowledge. People also often use it to ask for recommendations if they're looking for a particular service/product.

Jpolito830 linkedIn is an online business network of professionals representing according to their "About Us" 150 industries and over 25 million members.
I find it good for making business contacts and generating new business opportunities. You can also join groups which range anything from humour or gardening, to business marketing and even company groups. |

All I've seen from social networking sites is people posting tons and tons and tons (and more tons) of total crap. If you like typing and have 1000's of things to say that have totally no value then social network sites are for you. That said, millions of people use them so I'd better shoot off, join some and post some junk
![]() maybe I'll keep a record of how many cups of tea I drink each day, that might be interesting to someone perhaps? ![]() James. |

I have used LinkedIn mainly as a way to "bookmark" interesting people I have met who could potentially be good contacts for the future. They have some forums as well which are good for asking a detailed question and getting knowledgable responses. However, until now I think it's struggled to have any real killer application. They've now launched a new suite of applications which I think could be that. It's definitely worth another look if you have overlooked it to date.
