Default Pushing your business to the edge

Well, I feel I've pushed my business to the edge in terms of investing in it - if I push any further I endanger a cash flow problem, and I think that would be a sign of excess risk.

I'm due an Adsense check over the next couple for days, and the amount I receive will be larger than the actual funds I have left in the business account. Which I think is a bad sign and shows that I need to build up my liquidity now.

Sure, the Adsense earnings were for a very successful month and my highest to date, but that doesn't excuse the fact that I've left little liquidity.

Considering problems I've had over this year with copyright problems, that leaves the business vulnerable, but I already know guaranteed income over the coming month will leave me capitalised enough.

Still, here's hoping the investment is worth it. I believe if I'm patient and continue building my business then all should be fine. After all, an investment is an investment, not a cost.

I think most people feel the same way at present, there is no way of knowing what will happen over the next 12 months.

I was going to have a big expansion with the plant hire side of the business but hedged my bets and went for a halfway house approach, which I have to admit I'm glad I did. Things have gone from totally manic to very quiet. If we had taken on all the extra commitments at present I'd be a very worried man.

I am impressed that you are making money from Adsense - I have a site which generates about 30pence per click, but I don't know how to drive traffice to it without spending more than I'll earn! I suppose I just wait for it to be picked up.

What I ended up doing was investing in a small number of sites to make them better. They were running at a loss for a long time, but the investment accelerated the process of being "picked up".

Even now, much of my adsense only covers costs on some sites, and I run at a loss on other sites, but some of them have taken off precisely because I've put a lot of effort in.

They used to say "build and they will come" but my own experience is that if you wait for others to promote your site, you're left waiting a very long time - you need to put in that extra effort a lot if not most of the time.

Twas the old mantra, don't think with a few sites/exceptions that are picked up by the media, that those days will ever come again. Concerted marketing campaigns are needed these days.
