PR is not an indicator of site worth

It really isn't a clear indicator of anything, though, other than a metaphor for a site's link profile. It states nothing on ranking position of traffic.

Most high ranking website for competitive terms display a high page rank, does this not point to the fact there is a correlation between PR and Serps?

Not at all - it is so easy to go through any Top 10 list of pages ranking for any keyword, and find that they are absolutely not ordered by Toolbar PageRank value.

I have tended to use page rank as a measure of how my link building is going rather than anything more than that. If the ranking goes now then I know I am doing something wrong with my link building and visa-versa.
