I have used one in the past and I would not recommend it. I have problwems in getting them to understand exactly what i wanted even though it was clearly documented and examples given. |

I don't think it matters if they are Indian or not. I've seen as many people do poor jobs in the UK, as anywhere else.
Is it wise to pay someone to do a job if you aren't certain they are capable and able to do the job? Probably not. |

Cowboys and Indians aren't the same thing There's good and bad companies everywhere. There's certain things to bear in mind though.. one, time zones (not really an issue unless you have a tight deadline). Two, language - but then, a lot of people in India speak good English (I'm assuming you don't speak an Indian language!). You'll get a feel for their grasp of English when you discuss the project with them. Three, and this is the biggest potential pitfall in my opinion, there's the legal side.. IF you do end up having issues, you could end up having real problems doing anything about it. It's REALLY expensive to sue internationally, probably more than the project itself would cost. But you may decide that the risk is offset by a cheaper quoted price.

The minority of my experience with Indian freelancers and companies is good. Most of my experience is that I am being taken for a ride at the slightest opportunity, and instructions have to be described to the nth degree to be properly followed. In short, to harmonise with the above, get the dev work done on the basis of competence. Seriously, people look to India for cheap, but it can end up costing a lot more in wasted time, energy, and lost custom. I get all my web dev done from people I know who are reliable, and UK based, these days. It costs more, but I'm paying for trust, reliability and accountability, on top of competence and proficiency. 2c.

Hi, instead of cutting costs in this way why not look into ways of funding the design you want from the developer you want to use... these days you can get grants to fund all of your web development costs.

I'd have to agree with most of the opinions above.
There are plenty of reasonable priced freelancers in the UK that will do an excellent job, provide good support and be on the end of a local telephone call. My poor experiences wouldn't be just limited to India. |

It was interesting to read the above posts as I had a similar query to make.
An India-based company has been offering to do some SEO for my business including some article writing for £7 an hour and I was hesitating as to whether to consider their offer or not. Jackie |

We use India based freelancers for very basic web design and graphics work. We usually only pay on completion as we find this ensures we get what we want. They are always cheap and work quickly.
The more complicated programming work is done in the UK by companies we can meet face to face and build a relationship with. One issue with letting a non-UK company do your SEO is the language barrier. Any articles they write are based on their understanding of what you do and often contain poor English which can reflect badly on you. It really depends on where they are publishing the articles.
