The clothing issue is fairly standard in many other countries too... but it is a little more complex usually.
Clothes that can only be solely for work such as uniforms, or safety clothing are usually tax deductible. |

And I am sure Frauke can go on with the complexities of it all (I am a little less familiar with the details of the UK system).
I think this does point out one reason why an accountant can be important, even if not "saving tax" (as I see some think the benefit is simply that tax saved should be more than the cost of an accountant) an accountant can make things a little easier come visits from HMRC, as well as the advice and guidance that can be given. |

Since my retirment from business, I have noticed the massive differences being attributed to claiming for business purposes for Tax etc. Georgey Porgee seems to have stepped up his vendetta towards the business community, attacking every concievable benefit that makes being in business worth while?

Funny to say, I have just been asked the same question and the answer is it is classified as a Cell/Mobile Phone and will be costed or charged as per the Revenues rulings on Cell phones and Mobile Phones?
Sorry no escape, it always falls under a perk and therefore taxable benefit. ![]() ![]()

The rules are fairly clear on the subject, it does not matter what make or type it is? If it is used, or has capability to be used as phone, then in a business it will be treated as a perk and taxed accordingly.
Very similar to Cars and Vans, the out of hours rule of use applies and also a preportion of daily use is also set aside and charged in the perks bracket. If you call your local Tax help line they will give you all the current info and not need you information in return? Hope that takes the ambiguity out of it for you? Happy phoning ![]() Andrew |
