I don't do this very often but I am totally re-working one of my business website's - infact this website will eventually take over from the majority of the "other" website's that I have kicking around the place (business site's) to bring everything "under one roof"...
www.totalwebdevelopment.co.uk It is starting to get right on my nerves! I kinda like the design - but getting all the info on there without giving visitors an "information overload" is difficult - any comments at this stage will be appreciated (And YES Brian - it IS Joomla! )

MSM, why not post the errors if your seeing them?
Tony, The time since last seen under the web chat may be off-putting to some, I suspect this may be the service you're using, if it's your own, then I'd suggest editing that out as you don't want people thinking you've been off-line all day. Site looks good and doesn't give me any errors (not been everywhere on the site) Joomla 1 or 1.5, can't see obviously from the source? You might also want to look at the embedded cosmetic surgery link in the SEF plugin.

As soon as I look at the page, my eyes look to the left where the contact number is, then move right to the globe and then stick on the company news.
That makes me feel the site has a weak call to action, and that removing the news section, and left aligning the globe image, would help focus on the contact information - presuming that is the Call To Action.

Note form:
- could do with some variation of font sizes to give some structure to all the text. - at default text sizes, some of the text is too small (I'm on 1280x), like the newsflash text and the website appraisal button. The print buttons too (just noticed those). - the style is going to look dated pretty quickly. That whole glossy thing has been done to death. You'd be better off doing something unique - and memorable, don't just go with a current trend. - Kerning on your logo is off, especially around the O. It reads T O TAL. - next to your logo, you have an image of some guy in a suit. It doesn't really add anything. If anything, it takes attention away from your logo (and by extension, your brand) - to the left side of that guy, there's a slight colour change. The left part, under the corner, is light blue, then it goes darker behind the standing bloke. - where you have section headers in coloured boxes (eg, "simple web presence"), the spacing is pretty high around the text. - There's a lot of copy. I totally understand the temptation to put a bit of everything on the index, but I think you'd be better off taking some of it away to different pages. Like, everything about website development on one page, hosting on another etc. |
