How would such a death be experienced? Nobody posts there anymore?
I'm not sure how much the "developer" thing has to do with the activity or health of the forum. I have no idea, but this could be a case of something maturing to point it will continue to function. Nobody's doing much development of scissors, either, but people still buy and use them.

From what I understand of it, the article is using developer activity statistics to measure how "healthy" application development for Facebook is. There's an update to the article which spells out the conclusions more clearly.

IIRC new user signups were already down on Facebook at the start of the year, which could mean that people are either getting bored of it or that it has reached most of it's user base.

My interpretation would be the latter. I'm not sure how potential new users could be bored with it.
I also... and this in general for writing about business... have always had trouble with the concept of "no growth equals death".
